Three consequence models you can adapt without losing linkage
Each model gives a thesis, two paragraph routes, and a closing judgement. The key is to keep the consequence tied back to the declaration itself, not just to the wider topic.
Model 1 | 2021 style
Consequences and historical significance
Best pair: wider Arab-Israeli war + Palestinian refugee crisis.
This is the cleanest route when the question asks how consequences made the event historically significant.
Working thesis
The declaration was historically significant because it widened the fighting into an interstate Arab-Israeli war and intensified the Palestinian refugee crisis. The war changed the regional balance immediately, while the refugee issue kept the event politically alive for decades.
Paragraph 1 move
Explain the move from civil war to interstate war after 15 May 1948. Use the entry of Egypt, Transjordan, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon, then note that the new Israeli state was born inside a survival war. This consequence mattered because it transformed the scale of the conflict.
Paragraph 2 move
Explain the refugee crisis as an immediate and enduring consequence. Use the roughly 300,000 Palestinians already displaced by 14 May 1948 and around 700,000 by the end of the war. This is the stronger significance paragraph because it joins scale, human impact, and long duration.
Judgement line
The war showed the event's immediate importance, but the refugee crisis made it more historically significant because its human and political effects did not end with the 1949 armistices.

Model 2 | 2024 style
Connected consequences
Best pair: wider Arab-Israeli war + territorial change beyond the UN plan.
Use this when the paper wants you to show a connection rather than treat the consequences as separate boxes.
Working thesis
Two consequences were closely connected: the declaration helped trigger a wider Arab-Israeli war, and that war produced a new territorial order beyond the UN partition plan. The second consequence followed through the first rather than standing separately.
Paragraph 1 move
Explain how declaration widened the conflict. The invasion by neighbouring Arab states turned the struggle into a regional war and changed what was at stake from local control to the survival of the new state.
Paragraph 2 move
Show the connection by tracing what war changed on the ground. The UN had proposed about 55 percent of the land for the Jewish state, but by 1949 Israel controlled about 79 percent. Jordan held the West Bank and East Jerusalem, Egypt controlled Gaza, and Jerusalem was divided.
Judgement line
The war was the first consequence, but territorial change made the declaration durable because it turned a political announcement into a lasting territorial order.

Best pair: Palestinian refugee crisis + long regional conflict.
This is the safest route when the wording simply asks for two different consequences that resulted from the event.
Working thesis
Two different consequences resulted from the declaration: mass Palestinian displacement became a defining human and political issue, and a long regional conflict became entrenched. One consequence was immediate in lived experience, while the other unfolded across later decades.
Paragraph 1 move
Explain the refugee consequence directly. Statehood and war were inseparable in practice, so the new balance of military power changed who controlled land and who could remain on it. Use displacement figures and the continuing unresolved status of the refugees.
Paragraph 2 move
Then move outward to the entrenched regional conflict. Treat 1948 as the first of a series of Arab-Israeli wars and as the beginning of a question that continued to pull in the UN and later the superpowers.
Judgement line
The regional conflict had the widest geopolitical reach, but the refugee crisis is often the sharper proof of historical significance because it tied immediate human loss to later political grievance for generations.

§ 03 — 2025 report lift
What the 2025 report rewarded, turned into usable moves
The report did not just reward two consequences. It rewarded direct linkage, a separate analytical judgement, synthesis rather than description, and precise historical language.
Move 1
Write the separate analytical paragraph
After the two body paragraphs, add one short evaluative paragraph that weighs them. A safe model is:
Although the widening of the war showed the declaration's immediate importance, the refugee crisis was more historically significant because it combined scale, long duration, and continuing political impact.
Move 2
Synthesise, do not just describe
- Use the evidence, then explain why it matters
- Link each paragraph back to the declaration itself
- Show how the second consequence grows out of the first when useful
Move 3
Use precise historical vocabulary
- Prefer intensified, widened, entrenched, and reconfigured
- Use historically significant, enduring, immediate, and direct
- Avoid vague wording like big, bad, important, or lots of

A strong Year 12 consequence answer should show what followed, how it followed from the declaration, and why it mattered.

Keep the link direct
- Say how the declaration produced the consequence
- Do not drift into a generic Middle East story
- Name the event again inside each paragraph

Make the pair different
- Use two genuinely different outcomes
- For connected questions, make one grow out of the other
- For significance questions, compare scale and duration

Add the analytical paragraph
- Judge which consequence mattered more and why
- Compare immediate impact against enduring impact
- Do not stop after two descriptive body paragraphs
